On November 21, 2024, SEAMEO SEAMOLEC hosted the STEP Forward: Enhancing STEM Teaching through Collaboration in Indonesia webinar, bringing together educators, policymakers, and experts from across Southeast Asia. The event spotlighted the Strengthening Teacher Education Program (STEP), a regional initiative launched in 2023 in partnership with SEAMEO STEM-ED, Thailand, and supported by Chevron, aimed at building STEM teaching capacity in Indonesia, Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Thailand.
The webinar began with welcome remarks from SEAMOLEC Director, Dr. Wahyudi, and SEAMEO STEM-ED Director, Dr. Kritsachai Somsaman, followed by an official opening by Mr. Karnadi, representing Indonesia’s Directorate General of Teacher and Education Personnel.
Key presentations were delivered by speakers from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), and Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Raden Fatah, alongside teachers from their partner schools involved in the program. Discussions focused on innovative STEM teaching strategies, the critical role of Open Classroom Observations in fostering collaboration, and the program’s positive impact on both pre-service and in-service teacher development.
This webinar emphasized the importance of inclusivity and regional partnerships in transforming STEM education and equipping teachers with skills for the future. A recording of the webinar is available on the SEAMOLEC official YouTube channel.
