The digital age is really influential to the people nowadays that it changes their way of life, including their social life and religious activities. Especially the millennial that are closely attached to the newest technology and virtual world, they use internet to search for information, learning media, entertainment, or religious lectures.
SEAMEO Regional Open Learning Centre (SEAMOLEC) as the centre that utilizes Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into teaching and learning process, in cooperation with The Preaching Division of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (Lembaga Dakwah Pengurus Besar NU/LDPBNU) conducted an activity called “Training of Millennial Dai: Challenges and Opportunities in Millennial Era” (re: Dai means preacher).
This programme was held in the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Office, Jalan Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta on May 21-22, 2019. On the opening ceremony Dr. Alpha Amirrachman, Director of SEAMOLEC gave his remark and mentioned the support of the centre to LDPBNU in integrating ICT into preaching activities. The Leader of LDPBNU, KH Agus Salim officially opened the programme which was also attended by Secretary of LDPBNU, KH Bukhori Muslim, and Head of the programme committee, KH Masruhin Abdul Jalil.
This Millennial Dai Programme aims to provide the young preachers to be able to deliver religious lectures through social media. There were 150 participants, from young to senior preachers, learned about how to develop preaching content, preaching rhetoric, and how to manage them into the social media accounts in order to be easily accessed by social media users.
Currently, social media is considered as one of powerful tools in giving preaches. The religious lectures can be viewed by audience, both live and recorded. Social media can reach areas that are unreachable physically. KH Agus Salim said that this important and empowering program will be continued and expanded to involve more preachers.
